Pathway to Residency

Last updated: June 2021

NIMSA will be giving a dedicated talk for this topic :)

Ireland

General:
  • You are placed into 1 of 4 groups:
    • 1. EU Citizens/Residents (CAO group), basically not any of us that applied through Atlantic Bridge
    • 2. EU Citizens
    • 3. Stamp 4 visa (Unclear what what this means, you would know if you have it)
    • 4. Everyone else (ie. Canadians and Americans)
  • If you hold an EU passport you are in group 2, otherwise you are most likely in group 4
  • They cycle through the groups so that everyone in the group ahead gets filled before the following group gets a job
  • Historically everyone in group 1,2,3 get a job, only a few in group 4 will get a job

How it works:
  • There are roughly 750 jobs, you rank 50, then rank 6 general geographical areas you would like to work in should you not get your 50 (they will assign you a job at random always giving you your preferred area if it is available)
  • You are ranked based on your class centile in your individual group.
    • Eg. If you are top of the class but in group 4, you will still only get a job after groups 1-3 have been allocated but you will be top in group 4.
  • Why is it done this way? EU law states that you cannot give a non-EU citizen a job before an EU citizen

Why Ireland?
  • It is free to apply, just do it, you don’t lose anything, you can always withdraw if you get a job elsewhere (Deadline to withdraw is after both the Canadian and US match)
  • The application is EASY

Salary?
  • 38,000 EURO
  • Overtime x1.25, double pay on Sunday and Bank holidays
  • You can make around 40-45k EURO
  • Taxes: 20% up to 32k, 40% everything after
